Aims and objectives of the course:
- Explain the importance of workplace health and safety for moral, legal and financial reasons;
- Identify the legal responsibilities of the employers in maintaining health and safety at work;
- Discuss common diseases of the respiratory system;
- List the various legislations and regulations regarding health and safety rules for employees.

- Introduction to Health and Safety;
- Meaning of Health and Safety in the workplace;
- Importance of workplace Health and Safety (for moral, legal and financial reasons);
- Responsibilities of the employers;
- Employees and self-employed (Health and Safety Laws, Legal Responsibilities of the employers, self-employed);
- Risk Assessment and Risk Control (the objective, the risk assessors, hazards, evaluating the risks, elimination of the hazard and substitution, Safety signs, marking and warning devices and administrative controls, Safety signs checklist, training, Information and welfare, monitoring and supervision, personal protective equipment (PPE), other hierarchies of risk control);
- Work-related accidents and ill-health (Definition of accident, accident categories, accident consequences, occupational or work-related ill-health, disease is of the respiratory system, temperature-related conditions, noise-induced hearing loss (occupational deafness), psycho-social disorders, radiation, physical agents, diseases due to microorganisms, diseases of the skin);
- First aid and PPE (First-aid provision, impact on first-aid provision if risks are significant, first aider, Personal Protective Equipment: PPE, personal protective equipment at Work Regulations 1992 as amended in 2002 and 2013, provision of PPE and compatibility, assessment, maintenance, accommodation, information, instruction and training, use and reporting of defects);
